Collaborative Supervision: YouTube introduces new tools for parents

Send Push
YouTube is expanding its commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for teenage users. Today, the platform announced a new supervised experience that allows parents and teens to link their accounts, enabling shared insights and notifications. This feature aims to help parents stay informed about their teens' channel activity and offer guidance on responsible content creation.

The new Family Center , launching globally this week, builds upon YouTube's existing supervised experience for pre-teens. Parents and teens can link their accounts within this hub to view shared insights, including the number of uploads, subscriptions, and comments. Proactive email notifications will be sent at key events, such as when teens upload a video or start a livestream, providing opportunities for parental advice and guidance supported by resources developed in collaboration with Common Sense Networks.

YouTube's products for youth, including YouTube Kids and supervised experiences for pre-teens, have reached over 100 million active users. The development of these products is guided by independent experts in child development, digital learning, and children's media. In partnership with these experts and aligned with its youth principles, YouTube has created this new experience that respects teens' autonomy while providing parents and teens with mutual control and resources for responsible digital citizenship .

Over the years, YouTube has invested in various features to protect younger users, such as combating harmful content and introducing privacy and well-being protections. Recently, the platform implemented safeguards to limit recommendations of potentially problematic videos, especially for teens. This new supervised experience represents another step in YouTube's efforts to empower parents and teens to navigate the online world together.
