Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, Naveen Patnaik, the Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Assembly, submitted his nomination papers to continue as the president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) at Sankha Bhawan.
He stands unopposed for this position.
Since the party's establishment in 1997, Patnaik has been re-elected as BJD president for an impressive eight consecutive terms.
His most recent election to this role occurred in February 2020.
Patnaik chose to file his nomination on the 28th anniversary of his father, Biju Patnaik's, passing, who is the namesake of the regional party.
While not explicitly mentioning the BJP, Patnaik remarked, "Certain individuals are attempting to undermine the contributions and sacrifices of our esteemed leaders. There are efforts to alter historical narratives. However, they must understand that history embodies the collective experiences of a nation over time and cannot be altered at anyone's whim."
Following his nomination, Patnaik highlighted that the BJD government has made remarkable strides in development for Odisha from 2000 to 2024, earning the state recognition on both national and international platforms.
