Apple has focused on making it easier to repair its iPhones, and the new iPhone 16 series shows significant advances in this area. This is a welcome change for those considering the latest models. Let’s see what improvements the new series brings.

The Apple iPhone 16 Series offers some nice patch updates

Apple told Engadget and Tom’s Guide that its new iPhone 16 series phones will be more customizable than ever, and you can do so by:

  • Battery Upgrade: iPhone 16 and 16 Plus batteries are now easier to replace thanks to the new “Ionic Liquid Battery Adhesive”. This adhesive can be removed with a low voltage current such as a 9V battery, which is much easier compared to older, harder adhesive strips.
  • Repair assistant. In iOS 18, Apple introduced Repair Assistant. This tool allows users and third-party repairers to install new and used Apple components directly onto the device without contacting Apple for assistance. This makes it even easier to repair some parts.
  • Diagnostic Tool: iOS 18 introduces a new repair tool called Apple Diagnostics. This helps you find out what the problem is with the device and which parts need to be replaced without having to use another device for diagnosis.
  • Third-Party Repair: Apple extends support for third-party and used Apple components. Used parts can now be calibrated via Apple’s cloud servers and marked as “used” in the repair history. Although third-party components cannot be fully calibrated yet, the iPhone 16 tries to activate them to work as best as possible.
