North India Reels Under Intense Heat; Rain Forecast in Eastern and Southern States

The heatwave gripping India since the beginning of April has intensified, with temperatures soaring above 40°C in several regions, from Delhi-NCR to southern states. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a concerning rise in temperatures across parts of North India, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

Despite the heat, weather conditions are expected to change soon for parts of East and South India, where rain and thunderstorms are likely over the next 12 hours.

IMD Forecast: Thunderstorms and Rain in These States

According to the IMD, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunder is expected in the following states:

  • Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal: Rain with thunder and lightning.

  • Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala: Light to moderate showers possible.

  • Karnataka, Chhattisgarh: Continued scattered rainfall activity.

These weather patterns may bring short-term relief but could also pose challenges due to localized storms and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Delhi Weather Today: Hot and Windy

In Delhi and adjoining NCR regions, the weather will remain clear and dry, with no signs of immediate relief from the heat. Winds are expected to blow at 10–15 km/h during the day, providing slight comfort.

  • Minimum Temperature: 26°C (Night)

  • No Rain Expected

  • Heatwave Conditions Continue

The IMD suggests that strong winds may blow during nighttime hours, but daytime temperatures will continue to rise, making it essential for residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Temperature Rising in Northern States

A steady temperature rise of 2–4°C is being recorded in many northern regions, including:

  • Jammu and Kashmir

  • Himachal Pradesh

  • Uttarakhand

  • Punjab

  • Delhi

  • Rajasthan

Meanwhile, Central India and parts of Maharashtra are expected to witness rain and thunderstorms on April 14–15, according to IMD data, which may temporarily cool down the region.

Stay Weather-Aware and Safe

With heatwave conditions and storm activity occurring simultaneously in different regions, citizens are advised to:

  • Stay updated with local weather alerts.

  • Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

  • Ensure children and the elderly remain indoors and well-hydrated.

  • Drive safely in rain-prone areas due to potential slippery roads.
