Badrinath Dham Opens for Devotees: Pilgrimage Season Officially Begins

Send Push

May 4, 2025: The sacred Badrinath Dham, one of the four revered Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand, has officially opened its doors to devotees. The temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, attracts thousands of pilgrims every year who seek spiritual fulfillment through the Char Dham Yatra.

With this, all four Dhams—Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and now Badrinath—are open for pilgrims as the yatra season enters full swing.

A Grand Floral Welcome and Divine Rituals

The opening ceremony of Badrinath Dham was marked by lavish floral decorations and ritualistic offerings, as priests and temple authorities welcomed Lord Vishnu’s devotees. The idol of Lord Badrinarayan, nestled in the serene landscape between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges on the banks of the Alaknanda River, is now available for public darshan until winter.

During the winter months, when the temple is closed due to extreme weather, the idol is moved to the Narsingh Temple in Joshimath, where worship continues.

How to Reach Badrinath Dham

Badrinath is accessible via multiple travel options:

  • By Air:
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, approximately 315 km from Badrinath. Taxis and buses are available for onward travel.

  • By Train:
The closest railway station is Rishikesh, located around 295 km away. Pilgrims can continue their journey by road.

  • By Road:
Pilgrims often travel from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun via shared taxis or buses. The roads are well-maintained, but mountainous, so caution and proper planning are advised.

Temple Timings and Seasonal Access
  • Temple Open Duration: May to November

  • Winter Closure: From late November, the shrine is closed due to snowfall.

  • Alternate Worship Site: During winter, worship continues at Joshimath’s Narsingh Temple, where the eternal flame lit in Badrinath continues to burn for six months.

The opening of Badrinath marks a spiritual high point of the Char Dham Yatra, especially after Gangotri and Yamunotri opened on Akshaya Tritiya, and Kedarnath on May 2, 2025.

Important Tips for Devotees
  • Carry valid ID proof and necessary permits if required.

  • Dress appropriately and be prepared for cold weather, even in summer.

  • Check for official guidelines issued by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department before travel.

  • Consider pre-booking accommodations, as the area experiences high footfall during yatra season.

Conclusion

The opening of Badrinath Dham heralds the full commencement of the 2025 Char Dham Yatra season. With spiritual energy, natural beauty, and a structured pilgrimage route, Badrinath continues to be a beacon of devotion and faith.
