Highlights Prime Minister Narendra Modi says Operation Sindoor was an attack on 'the heart of terror and terrorism', and is a policy of India from now on, call it the new Normal Talking about discussions with Pakistan, the PM said, "Terror and talk do not go together, blood and water do not flow together" The Prime Minister's address came after the India-Pak DGMOs' talk over the ceasefire 'understanding'. Soon after the address, Pakistani drones were seen on the International border in Jammu and Jalandhar Donald Trump, the peacemaker, says he averted the nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan. Know what all followed after the PM's address
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, delivered his first address to the nation on May 12, since Operation Sindoor, India's precision attack on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The ceasefire between both countries was agreed upon on May 10, after days of intense conflict on the borders. The address was just what every Indian wanted to hear: An attack on the heart of terror and terrorism, which will be repeated if State-sponsored terrorism persists. Here is a take on the 22 minutes of PM's address:
A message to the world: Loud and clear Terror and blood don't flow together
The Prime Minister stated the clear position of India on terrorism. Making his stance firm, Narendra Modi said, "Terror and talks can't go together; terror and trade can't go hand in hand, and water and blood can't flow together."
Taking a chide at Pakistan, he said that the terrorists being fed by Pakistan will destroy it one day. The biggest proof of state-sponsored terrorism is when higher-ranked officials of the Pakistan Army bid adieu to the slain terrorists. This is what is the dirty truth of Pakistan. He added, "India will not see separately terrorists and their state sponsors.[1]"
Operation Sindoor is the new normal; it is only suspended for a while, and is India's policy nowOperation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, in the wee hours around 1:30 am. The precision strikes carried out on terrorists' infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir killed around 100 terrorists, causing massive destruction to their planning and training centers[2].
Narendra Modi said, "The terrorists wiped the Sindoor of our women, so India demolished the terrorists' headquarters. In these attacks by India, more than 100 terrorists were killed. Many terrorist masterminds openly operating in Pakistan over the past two to three decades, plotting against India, have all been wiped out in one strike. Operation Sindoor is a vow of justice; now the terror groups know what it means to wipe off Sindoor from our women's foreheads. Terrorists used religion to divide India. Pahalgam attack was the most barbaric face of terrorism, a personal pain for me." Talking about the continuation of the Operation, PM said, "We have only postponed our military action; we will watch every step.[1]" Nuclear blackmail won't be toleratedAs always, during these days of conflict, Pakistan was blackmailing India into using nuclear weapons. Narendra Modi gave a befitting reply, "India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail. Terror infra operating under nuclear blackmail will be targeted by India. We will reply to terror on our own terms, we will attack at the root of terror.[1]"
India and Pakistan will only talk on terrorism and POKOn a take about discussions with Pakistan, Narendra Modi said it bluntly, "If there will be talks between India and Pakistan, it will be only on terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). India's stand has been clear: terror, trade, and talks cannot be done together.[1]"
An attack on Pakistan's chest"Pakistan ki tayyari seema par vaar ki thi lekin Bharat ne Pakistan ke seene par vaar kar diya (Pakistan had planned to attack India's border, but we took the fight to the heart of Pakistan)", said the Prime Minister in his address.[1].
India's might and valour are dedicated to the mothers and daughters of the nationThe Prime Minister dedicated Operation Sindoor to Indian women- the mothers, the sisters, and the daughters of the nation. He said, "Today, I dedicate this valour, bravery, courage, and the heroism possessed by the Indian Armed Forces to every mother of our country, every sister of our country, and every daughter of the country.[1]"
He saluted India's Defence, saying, "The World saw our might." The Made in India Weapons proved their mettle in Operation Sindoor, the defence system was capable enough to neutralize Pakistani drones, and the missiles destroyed crucial Pakistani Air bases[1].
India and Pakistan's DGMOs meetingAs declared earlier, the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held discussions on the ceasefire 'understanding' at 5:00 pm on Monday, May 12 (according to ANI). The deliberated talks revolved around various aspects, including: the commitment to stick to the ceasefire, i.e., neither side will fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other. Followed by considering immediate measures for troop reduction from the borders and forward areas[6].

After the Prime Minister's address, drones were spotted along the International border in Samba (Jammu & Kashmir) and Jalandhar (Punjab). The drone activity was observed for a few hours in these border districts, leading to precautionary measures and a temporary blackout. However, it was later confirmed that the situation was calm and under control[3].
Donald Trump: The Peacemaker, really?
US President Donald Trump was the first one to make the India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement on May 10[4]. And on May 12, before PM Narendra Modi's address, he said that the US averted 'nuclear conflict' by brokering a ceasefire. The de-escalation was initiated via a trade negotiation with Asian neighbors[5].
While Donald Trump has been all out in the world, presenting himself as the peacemaker between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn't mention his US counterpart anywhere in the address yesterday. Neither has India in any of the press briefings or statement releases ever since the ceasefire. Neither by the Foreign Secretary of India, Vikram Misri, nor by DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai in a defence briefing. In contrast, Pakistan's PM Shehbaz Sharif thanked and appreciated the US and Donald Trump for mediation via an X post.
Narendra Modi said, "After realising that it cannot fight India, Pakistan pleaded to the whole world for help. After all unsuccessful attempts, the Pakistani DGMO approached the Indian DGMO. By then, their terrorist infrastructures had been destroyed, along with the terrorists killed. Their terror hubs turned into caves. So when Pakistan assured us that there would be no terror or armed misadventure, we considered their plea.[1]"
What follows?Well, it is yet to be seen how India and Pakistan move forward with the discussions and understanding. In the meantime, Vikram Misri will brief the Parliamentary panel about the India-Pakistan conflict and the current foreign policy developments this coming week, according to PTI.
After the address yesterday, the Prime Minister visited Adampur Air Base in Punjab today to meet India's brave air warriors and soldiers. He interacted with them days after the roaring success of Operation Sindoor, where Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Matram were chanted by army men. Narendra Modi took to X, sharing about his visit, "It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination, and fearlessness."
