Bengaluru: Widespread rainfall was reported across eight districts of Karnataka on Saturday, with thunder and lightning accompanying the downpour in several regions. Some areas also experienced property damage due to strong winds and falling trees.
In Mandya district, heavy rain with thunder and lightning continued from Friday midnight till early Saturday morning. Hassan district saw intense rain accompanied by gusty winds. In Sakleshpur taluk’s Hanbal area, sheet roofs were blown off, damaging five to six vehicles. Fortunately, people at the site managed to escape unhurt. Rain also lashed Hassan city for over half an hour.
Davanagere received moderate rainfall with thunder, while Shivamogga and its surrounding taluks, including Tirthahalli, Bejjavalli, Salgadi, Tirthamattur, Honnetalu, Hosahalli, Mulubagilu, Sonale, Soraba, Sagar, and Shikaripura experienced steady showers for about an hour.
In Mysuru district, overcast skies prevailed with scattered rainfall in rural areas. Bagalkot also reported mild drizzles in select villages under a cloudy sky. The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi were hit by heavy evening rains with thunderstorms and strong winds.
Tree falls on house in Kalasa:
In Kalasa taluk, heavy rainfall led to a tree falling on a house in Ellukudige, Hemmakki village, causing property damage. In another incident, an areca nut tree fell on a power line between Haluvali and Horanadu, disrupting road and power supply temporarily. Traffic in Kalasa town was also halted briefly due to the downpour.
Hailstorm and Power Disruption in Mahalingpur
Mahalingpur town experienced a hailstorm on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by strong winds. Several trees were uprooted, leading to a 2–3 hour power outage in many parts of the town. A massive Arali tree fell on cars near the Nagappa Temple in Vadageri, causing damage.
Rain forecast until April 9:
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a trough extending up to 0.9 km above sea level is influencing weather patterns. As a result, light to moderate rainfall is expected in parts of the state till April 9.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 35°C in Bengaluru and other parts of South Interior Karnataka, as well as in coastal districts. Rain is likely in isolated parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Sunday, while dry weather is expected to persist in North Karnataka, the IMD added.
