3 dead in Sweden shooting; gunman at large

Several people were injured in the Swedish city of Uppsala after reports of gunfire in the city centre, police confirmed on Tuesday, reports the Guardian.

The police confirmed in a statement that three people had died in the shooting and that they had opened a murder investigation. "Three people are confirmed deceased following a shooting," they said.

Authorities said they received multiple calls from the public after loud bangs were heard in the area. Responding to the alerts, officers arrived at the scene and found several individuals with injuries consistent with gunfire.

In a statement, Swedish police said, “Several people have been found with injuries that indicate gunfire.”

Following the incident, a large area was cordoned off as investigators began work to determine what had happened. Police also confirmed that “several investigative measures were under way at the scene.”

SVT public television reported that the suspect had fled on a scooter.
