NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended his warm wishes to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the occasion of the Jewish New Year , Rosh Hashanah.

Sharing a post on X, the Prime minister said: "Best wishes on Rosh Hashanah to my friend PM Netanyahu , the people of Israel and the Jewish community across the world."
"May the new year bring peace, hope and good health in everyone’s life. Shana Tova!," he added.

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is among the most sacred days in the Jewish faith. This holiday marks the beginning of the Jewish month of Tishri, which is the seventh month according to the Hebrew calendar.

It is believed by the community to be the day when God created the world, including Adam and Eve. The central ceremony features the blowing of the shofar horn in select synagogues, along with community prayers held beside a body of water.

In the evening, candles are lit, and families gather for a traditional meal that often includes challah bread, apples dipped in honey, and pomegranate, symbolizing a sweet and prosperous new year.
