NEW DELHI: Veteran investor Mark Mobius believes Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the potential to become one of the world’s foremost peacemakers, asserting that PM Modi deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his ability to bridge political divides on the global stage. In an interview with IANS, the 88-year-old Mobius praised PM Modi’s diplomatic acumen, particularly amid the escalating West Asia conflict and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war .

"PM Modi is a great leader as well as a great human being. He's a very, very good person,” Mobius emphasized, adding that PM Modi’s capacity to engage with diverse political views positions him as a vital force for peace. “His role internationally, I think, will grow in importance because he is able to have a dialogue with all sides of the political spectrum globally. He could become a very important peacemaker going forward,” he said.

Mobius, known for pioneering the first emerging markets fund, didn’t hold back from suggesting that PM Modi was worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. According to him, PM Modi “is really capable of almost anything” and has proven himself deserving of this global honor.

Reflecting on India’s diplomatic stance, Mobius pointed out the country's unique position as a fair and neutral player on the world stage. "India has shown its ability to be neutral and to be fair to all, and the country is in a very good position to act as a mediator for peace," Mobius said, underscoring PM Modi’s qualification as a potential key mediator in global affairs.

India’s neutrality, particularly in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, has allowed PM Modi to call consistently for peace and stability. His visit to Ukraine in August, the first by an Indian Prime Minister since diplomatic ties were established in 1992, reinforced India’s commitment to fostering dialogue and stability in war-torn regions.

When asked about shared perspectives with PM Modi, Mobius noted, "The common things between us are looking forward, not looking backward, and being more optimistic about what's happening globally."

As global turbulence intensifies, Mobius sees as PM Modi a leader poised to make a lasting impact, one capable of bridging divides and championing peace across borders.
