NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday constituted a 8-member NDA delegation which will visit Tamil Nadu 's Kurur following a deadly stampede at a TVK rally which killed 41 people.
MP Hema Malini-led delegation includes Anurag Thakur, Tejasvi Surya, Braj Lal, Shrikant Shinde, Aprajita Sarangi, Rekha Sharma and Putta Mahesh Kumar.
"BJP National President Hon'ble Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the people who lost their lives in the stampede during the TVK party's rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured," BJP said in a statement.
"The National President has constituted NDA delegation to visit Karur, Tamil Nadu and to look into the circumstances which led to this incident, meet to the affected families of this tragedy and submit its report as the earliest," it added.
Earlier, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with Union minister L Murugan and Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran, on Monday met the families of those who died in the Karur stampede and assured them of all possible assistance.
This comes after a massive crowd at Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam leader Vijay's campaign rally on Saturday evening reportedly turned chaotic, triggering panic.
Several attendees fainted and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Sources had said that overcrowding at the venue led to the tragedy.
