J&K LG Sinha vows forces will 'extract a price' for Ganderbal attack

Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha announced on Monday that security forces will take action against those responsible for the recent attack in Ganderbal , which resulted in the deaths of several construction workers . Sinha said that the forces will "extract a price" to ensure that terrorists remember the consequences.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday at an under-construction tunnel in the Ganderbal district, killed seven people, including a local doctor and six non-local laborers. Five others were injured in the incident.

Sinha posted on X, "The brutal and savage attack against construction workers will be avenged. I've asked the J&K Police, security forces to extract a price that will be remembered by the terrorists and their associates for time to come."

Meanwhile, speaking at a function earlier in the day, the LG emphasised that the "neighbouring country" still poses a threat and is attempting to kill innocent people and destabilize peace in the region. He stressed the need to stop drug smuggling and improve counterinsurgency operations.Sinha also stressed the importance of providing justice to the victims and directed the provision of financial assistance to the affected families. He stated that innocent people must be protected, while those guilty should face repercussions.


He paid tribute to those killed in the line of duty, acknowledging their sacrifices and promising support for their families, including education, health, and insurance benefits.

Addressing the importance of security, the LG had said, "Whenever any incident happens, police have to bear the brunt. So I request people to respect the sacrifices of our forces and encourage them.”

The Lieutenant Governor directed immediate financial assistance to the families of the slain civilians and sought prompt compensation from their employer, APCO Infratech .

As per the security-related expenditure guidelines, Rs 6 lakh will be given to the next of kin of each deceased civilian, Rs 15 lakh as an immediate measure from APCO Infratech, along with an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the injured. APCO Infratech will also provide additional financial aid under Corporate Personal Accident Policy and five years of the deceased's Gross CTC.

Sinha acknowledged that monetary compensation cannot replace the loss but assured concrete measures for the families to ensure they live with dignity.
