Canadian police on Monday allegedly assaulted the "Hindu worshippers" who were protesting against the attack on temples, according to a video posted by Daniel Bordman .
"He is the one," a woman who shot the video was heard saying as she pointed at an Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer, adding, "He is hitting with sticks."
"The RCMP start attacking Hindu worshippers on their own temple grounds in Surrey BC . Watch as an RCMP officer goes into the crowd to go after Hindu devotees after pushing them back to protect the Khalistanis who came to harass the temple goers on Diwali. Punching Hindus in the head and beating them with batons caught on video," Bordman said in a post on X.
This came after a widely circulated video showed a violent group attacking devotees outside the temple with sticks, while also displaying flags linked to pro-Khalistani groups. According to the Hindu Canadian Foundation, women and children were among those targeted by the mob. In response, Peel regional police arrested and charged three individuals in connection with the incident.
To voice their opinions against "Khalistani intimidation" and "anti-Hindu" hatred, the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) had organised a protest on Monday.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau condemned the attack asserting that "every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely." India too condemned the attack on the, Ontario, reportedly carried out by alleged Sikh extremists, calling the incident "deeply disturbing."
Meanwhile, three people have been arrested in the incident. "Earlier today, Peel Regional Police were present at a demonstration held at a place of worship in Brampton. The event was subsequently relocated to two different locations within the city of Mississauga As a result of these demonstrations, three individuals have been arrested and criminally charged for their actions. Several acts of unlawfulness continue to be actively investigated by our 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau along with 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau," a statement read.
