Army trains village defence groups in Rajouri after Pahalgam terror attack

NEW DELHI: In the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, the army has conducted specialised training for members of the village defence groups (VDGs) in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.

According to an official release, the training aims to strengthen security along sensitive border areas and is part of the army's broader efforts to empower local communities. The sessions, held periodically, focus on weapon handling, tactical response, and readiness to tackle emerging threats.

Army personnel provided detailed guidance to the VDG members to ensure they are well-prepared to assist security forces and protect their villages effectively. Officials said that the collaboration between the army and local defence groups is crucial for building a strong security framework in border regions.

Reaffirming its commitment, army said it would continue professional training, regular drills, and strategic support to local communities. The goal is to create a reliable local defence network that can respond quickly to any security challenges.

Following the terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, India has taken strong measures against Pakistan for its backing of cross-border terrorism. Government has said that both the terrorists and their conspirators will face severe punishment.
