Infosys, IIT Madras 5 more from India join AI group that includes Intel, Facebook, IBM and other tech giants

AI Alliance – founded in 2023 as a group of technology developers, researchers and industry leaders globally for advancing safe and responsible AI – has expanded with 7 new members from India. These members include Infosys , IIT Madras research lab AI4Bharat and IIT Jodhpur , among others.

Others include agricultural AI startup KissanAI , People+AI and Wadhwani AI – an initiative of Nandan Nilekani’s EkStep Foundation, and Sarvam AI. IIT Bombay is one of the founding members of the Alliance, which also has global tech giants such as IBM, Facebook-parent Meta, Intel, Hugging Face, ServiceNow, Uber, Sony and Dell Technologies.

What the Alliance has to say on new Indian members
The AI Alliance said that the move reinforces India's growing contribution to the global AI landscape.


“AI Alliance, which is dedicated to the mission of promoting open, safe and responsible artificial intelligence is proud to add a diverse mix of academia, startups, enterprises from India who are committed to open science and open technologies and want to participate in the new wave of AI innovation ,” it added.

It lauded India's rapidly growing AI landscape, “with the Government's IndiaAI mission aiming to catalyse and nurture the ecosystem by democratising access to technology and resources.”

With a large developer community and start-up ecosystem, India has made strides in leading the AI adoption and innovation as it is on the path to become a global hub for AI talent, skill, and innovation.

“Open-source approach to AI innovation aligns with the vision of the Indian government, which supports the adoption and use of open source technology to achieve India’s digital transformation goals,” the alliance added.

Balakrishna DR (Bali), who is executive vice president, global services head, AI and Industry Verticals at Infosys said that AI alliance’s objectives and approach align closely with Infosys Topaz.

“At Infosys, we believe that ensuring AI’s safety and fostering responsible adoption of AI is an industry-wide endeavour that requires collaboration among technology providers, policymakers, academia, and government bodies,” he added.
