When and where to watch Sri Lanka vs New Zealand test match: Date, time, venue, squad

NEW DELHI: New Zealand will face Sri Lanka in the first of two Test matches starting on Wednesday in Galle. The New Zealand team aims to recover from the disappointment of their abandoned match against Afghanistan.

The pitch in Galle is expected to favour spinners, which could benefit the home side. However, New Zealand has performed well in similar conditions. Sri Lanka last won a series against New Zealand in 2009, and the last two series in Sri Lanka, in 2012 and 2019, both ended in 1-1 draws.

New Zealand has brought in retired Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath to assist their players. However, the weather forecast is unfavourable for the match, mirroring the conditions during New Zealand's washed-out Test against Afghanistan in Greater Noida last week.

Sri Lanka has promoted Kamindu Mendis up the batting order for the two-Test series. Mendis had a successful tour of England, scoring a century and two half-centuries. Sri Lanka coach Sanath Jayasuriya said that it was time to move Mendis from No. 7 to No. 5 in the lineup.

In the World Test Championship , New Zealand is currently third in the standings, behind India and Australia, while Sri Lanka is in fifth place.
