Travis Kelce Sends Wake-Up Call to Chiefs Offense Following Slim Win Over Bengals

Send Push
Sound the alarm for the offence, Travis Kelce , a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs , is sounding after what Kansas City wide receiver argued was a thrilling, 26-25 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. The Chiefs start their season 2-0, but the victories left much to be desired in the eyes of the football world and specifically Kelce, who can smell a sixth title as the team chases its third straight Super Bowl.

Chiefs Defense Saviors in Chiefs' Victory, But Offense Falls Well Behind

In his "New Heights" podcast, Kelce openly praised the defense, saying they’ve been "playing their a**es off" by getting turnovers and making it tough for opposing quarterbacks to make plays. The Chiefs’ defense has been crucial in securing both victories so far, but Kelce believes the offense needs to raise their game to match the defense’s level.

“I think the defense is playing their a**es off… We have to match that accountability on the offensive side to really become another Super Bowl-caliber team. I didn’t play my best,” Kelce admitted, acknowledging his own struggles. He only had one catch for five yards and a single rushing attempt against Cincinnati, a rare quiet performance for the star.

Even when the Chiefs' defense did everything it could do by making big stops and shutting down the Bengals' offense, Kelce couldn't help but ponder why the offense hasn't reached that level yet.

Kelce Steps Forward Taking the Blame

Kansas City came out victorious, but Kelce was quick to note that its offense was atrocious-and so was he. The three-time Super Bowl champion caught just one pass for five yards and had one rushing attempt-a rare off-day for one of the NFL's most reliable playmakers.

“I just think, we have to match that accountability on the offensive side to really become another Super Bowl-caliber team. I put that on me. I think it starts with the leaders,” he added. “I think it starts with making sure you're going with the right mentality. I didn't play my best. It spreads if you don't fix it. So, I got to get that thing fixed, man.”

This is worth mentioning because Kelce seems to be a leader on and off the field, so being critical of himself is just another thing. Perhaps the call for improvement shows that both him and his teammates might have to do more if they are to record their marks this season.

Chiefs Offense Faces New Challenges on the Road

After several home games, the undefeated Chiefs are set to travel for the first time this season. In Week 3, Kansas City will travel to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to visit the Atlanta Falcons. Considering that the defending champs look to fine-tune their offense, this matchup will be a stiff test.

While the Chiefs already beat two large AFC contenders in Baltimore and Cincinnati, this challenge is different. They must win by commanding the victory rather than just winning. And with Kelce's words, it all starts with spelling out to that the offense needs to step up.

Can the Chiefs Fix Their Offensive Woes?

The Chiefs have won the two tough games, but the offense needs to get on a roll if it wants to stay on course for another Super Bowl run. Now that Kelce is leading improvement and the defense playing lights out, it's now time to fix flaws before the Chiefs face stiffer competition down the road.

That's when all eyes will be on whether the Chiefs' offense finds its rhythm, which would make them one of the most feared units across the league, and Kelce bounces back from a relatively quiet performance to lead the way.

It's a long road into a third straight Super Bowl title, and Kelce knows to get there the Chiefs' offense needs to click into gear.
