Indian women's hockey team suffers setback in 2–0 loss to Australia

The Indian women's hockey team suffered a 0-2 defeat against Australia in their third tour match at the Perth Hockey Stadium on Thursday. Courtney Schonell scored in the ninth minute, while Grace Stewart added another goal in the 52nd minute to secure the win for the hosts.

This was India's first match against Australia's main team after losing their previous two games against Australia 'A' with scores of 3-5 and 2-3 during this exposure trip.

Australia started aggressively, earning an early penalty corner but failed to convert it. They soon found success when Schonell broke the deadlock in the ninth minute.


The home team continued to press and earned another penalty corner but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity.

India showed improved performance in the second quarter, securing two consecutive penalty corners. However, they couldn't find the equaliser and went into halftime trailing by one goal.

The third quarter remained goalless as both teams failed to convert their chances, including one penalty corner each.

India's pursuit of an equaliser in the final quarter led to them conceding a second goal, as Stewart scored from open play in the 52nd minute. Australia maintained their 2-0 lead until the final whistle.

The Indian team will face Australia again in their fourth tour match at the same venue on Saturday.

The visitors have struggled to secure a win in this tour so far, with this being their third consecutive loss in Australia.

The match showcased India's fighting spirit despite the defeat, as they created several scoring opportunities but couldn't convert them into goals.
