Purnima Shradha 2024: Date, Time, Rituals and Significance

Purnima is going to be observed on September 17, 2024. This will be a Bhadrapada Purnima and on this day people will perform Purnima Shraddha. As we all know that Pitru Paksha is going to start from 18th September so those, who have Shradha on Purnima Tithi, they will perform Purnima Shradh tomorrow. This is a sacred day, when all the Pitru will come to earth from Pitru Loka and stay here on earth till Mahalaya Amavasya which is going to be observed on October 2, 2024.

Purnima Shradh 2024: Significance

Purnima Shradh is one of the most sacred day when people will offer prayers to their ancestors and forefathers. This Purnima is dedicated to worship ancestors and offerings are made to their ancestors. Many rituals are performed to seek blessings of ancestors. the best time to perform puja rituals to ancestors is the Madhyahna Muhurat, it is the afternoon time when people can make offerings and some people invite the Brahmins to offer them food and clothes and at last give them dakshina.

Some people perform this ritual near Ganga Ghat as Gangajal holds a great importance in performing puja rituals dedicated to forefathers as it gives peace to the ancestors. People are advised not to purchase anything on this Purnima as Bhadrapada Purnima is considered inauspicious for purchasing anything and beginning new business ventures, starting new job, and Griha Pravesh is also prohibited on this day.

Purnima Shradh 2024: Puja Rituals

Wake up early in the morning and take a bath before starting rituals. They clean their house and prepare sattvik food and invite Brahmin at home. The male member of the family perform Pitru Tarpan and then they offer food to the Brahmin or Priest along with clothes and dakshina. You must take his blessings by touching his feet. People should feed cows, dogs and crows as it is considered highly rewarding. Performing Pitru Tarpan near Ganga Ghat is very meritorious and that's the reason why people visit Ganga Ghats for performing these rituals.
