Nagula Chavithi has its own religious and spiritual significance. This day is dedicated to honor Snake Gods or Goddess. In North India, it is celebrated as Nag Panchami and Nagula Chavithi is celebrated in South India. Nagula Chavithi falls on Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik. This year, it will be celebrated on November 5, 2024.

Nagula Chavithi 2024: Significance

Nagula Chavithi holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. This festival is dedicated to worship Snake Gods. Snake Gods are the integral part of Hinduism. They are mainly worshipped by almost everyone. Nagas are associated with all the Gods, such as Lord Shiva carries Naga Vasuki, and Mansa Devi is also the daughter of Lord Shiva. Shesha Naga is associated with Lord Vishnu.

In Hinduism, Naga or serpent also represents kundalini energy that symbolizes spiritual power, transformation and awakening. Nagas represents both protection and hidden wisdom and are considered as the guardian of sacred places or pilgrimage sites.

The festival of Nagula Chavithi is mainly celebrated in South India specially in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. On this sacred day, devotees worship Naga Devta by performing various puja rituals. On this very day, women observe fast and seek blessings of Naga Gods. According to the astrology, Nagas or snake represents Rahu and Ketu planet. Rahu is the head part of the snake and tail is associated with Ketu.

Nagula Chavithi 2024: Rituals

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath before starting puja rituals.
2. You must clean the house and puja room where you want to place an altar.
3. Draw an image of Naga Devta on a paper and keep it, where you placed an altar.
4. Light a diya with desi ghee and light incense sticks.
5. Offer flowers, home made sweets such as laddoos, made of rice flour and jaggery.
6. People perform puja with cows milk, turmeric, kumkum and bananas and thamboolam which is a combination of betel leaves and betel nuts, rice flour is also an important part of the puja ritual.
