Karan Johar’s 'Dostana 2' has been in the spotlight for quite some time. After facing delays and being put on hold in 2021 due to creative disagreements between Kartik Aaryan and Dharma Productions, the project is now reportedly moving forward again. Vikrant Massey is said to be replacing Kartik Aaryan, while Lakshya remains attached to the film and will continue to play a leading role. However, an official confirmation from the makers is still awaited.

Revival Talks and Casting Decisions

According to a source speaking to Mid-day, discussions about bringing the rom-com back to life started within the production team, and keeping Lakshya on board was an obvious decision. Given Dostana’s immense popularity, the makers aimed to introduce a new pairing for the sequel. Vikrant has emerged as a leading candidate, with the source confirming he is the preferred choice if the project moves ahead. The team is looking for actors who bring both strong chemistry and depth, qualities that Vikrant embodies perfectly.

Kartik Aaryan’s Exit and Official Statement

In 2024, Kartik spoke about the sudden halt of Karan Johar’s 'Dostana 2', a film in which he was set to star opposite Janhvi Kapoor. Reports from 2021 revealed that Kartik was no longer involved with the project. Following this, Dharma Productions officially announced their decision to recast the film.

Kartik Aaryan’s Response to the Controversy

In an interview with Lallantop, Kartik addressed the situation, saying, “Dekhiye, woh boht purani baat ho gayi. Kai bar bahut miscommunication hota hai aur kai bar bahot cheezein out of proportion bhi chali jati hai aur specifically jab voh likha jata hai to voh sound kuch aur karta hai." Despite the rumors about his exit from the film’s sequel, Kartik chose to remain silent and focus on his career. He stated, “I was silent when the news came about and I choose to stay silent even now. I am 100% focused on my work and when controversies of such nature happen, I stay calm about them. I don’t get involved a lot in them and I don’t have to prove anything to anyone by getting involved."
