American actor Alexx O’Nell is known for his appearances in films across both South Indian cinema and Bollywood over the past 15 years. The actor-turned-musician recently opened up about his role in the Malayalam blockbuster L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. He shared his admiration for Mohanlal—both as a performer and as a person.

In a recent conversation with India Express, Alexx offered insights into his experience working on L2: Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to Lucifer, which has set the box office alight and garnered rave reviews. Speaking about the public’s response to the film, he admitted that he had not anticipated such an overwhelming reaction. He found the reception moving and did not expect such immense love for the film. He acknowledged that it was a modest role in an epic production and was taken aback by the international and domestic impact it created. He expressed his gratitude for the numerous calls and messages he received in appreciation.

Despite sharing the screen with one of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars, Alexx was more struck by Mohanlal’s grounded demeanour than his celebrity aura. He shared how the Drishyam star's humility stood out the most.

“It’s always a little intimidating when you see someone like Mohanlal walk onto the set. All eyes naturally turn towards him. I don’t feel bad if, while you’re watching Empuraan, you're not looking at me—you’re looking at Mohanlal. He is also such a humble and nice guy that, even if you are starstruck, it quickly dissipates. He came up to me, introduced himself, and we chatted for a bit. He is such a wonderful guy—so down to earth—you forget that he is an internationally acclaimed superstar,” he added.

As he did not grow up in the Indian film industry, Alexx mentioned that he often misses out on the typical starstruck moments. He has worked with Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu, and even danced on stage with Shah Rukh Khan.

“I don’t really have that starstruck nature that a lot of folks do, but that allows me to do my job properly. My job is to be the best possible scene partner I can be to whoever I work with,” Alexx concluded.
