Jaisalmer: In Jaisalmer district, the outbreak of 'Karra disease' (botulism) persists, severely impacting cattle. Over 500 animals died amid rising concern among livestock owners in rural parts of the district. In recognition of the seriousness of the situation, the state govt dispatched a three-member team of experts from the Veterinary University in Jaipur to Jaisalmer. The team collected fodder, water, soil, and blood samples from affected areas.
There is currently no treatment or medication available for botulism. CM Bhajanlal Sharma is monitoring developments, stressing that the protection of cattle remains a top govt priority, and all necessary measures will be undertaken to combat the disease.
Following the govt's intervention, animal husbandry minister Joraram Kumawat visited Jaisalmer and convened a high-level meeting with officials. Feedback is being gathered continuously. Umesh Vargantiwar, joint director of the Animal Husbandry Department in Jaisalmer, said the botulism outbreak among cattle is under control. The team interacted with local people, assessed animal conditions, and conducted sample collection, with samples sent to the Veterinary University laboratory in Jaipur for analysis. TNN
