Manipur bans hunting & trade of Amur falcons

Send Push

Guwahati: Manipur govt has imposed a comprehensive prohibition on the pursuit, capture, slaughter and trade of Amur falcons, a migratory bird species, in Tamenglong district and its surrounding areas with immediate effect.

Known in the region as ‘Kahuaipuina’, these birds are crucial to the local ecosystem, and start flocking to Tamenglong and its bordering areas from the first to the second week of October and stay until the end of November.

Tamenglong DM has ordered the surrender of all air guns to village authorities, which will retain them until the end of November or until the falcons have completed their migration.

The authorities have cautioned that anyone caught violating the directive will face legal repercussions, underscoring their dedication to protecting the migratory birds during their crucial time in the region. tnn
