Berhampur: A hunter was arrested from Mankadakumpa Chhaka under Ganjam district's Tarsingi police station limits on Tuesday. A country-made gun and two deer horns with a face skeleton were seized from the hunter, Sania Mallick, 55, said Deepak Kumar Mishra, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Bhanjanagar, on Wednesday.
Police sources said the accused had hunted the deer around two months back and kept the animal's horns and face skeleton in a bush inside the Chandragiri forest. Mishra said the accused was illegally hunting wild animals in forest areas to sell their meat, teeth, skin, and horns locally.
Acting on a tip-off, police patrolling in Mankadakumpa Chhaka found the accused moving along state highway-37 with a country-made gun. The accused was unable to produce a valid firearms licence. During interrogation, he disclosed the location of the two deer horns, police said.
