Karwa Chauth is a Hindu festival that is celebrated by married women, especially in North India. During this festival, women pray for the long life and well-being of their husbands. Women observe a strict fast from sunrise to moonrise, refraining from food and water. On this day, women also apply mehendi, dress in festive attire and take part in puja in the evening. The fast is broken after moon sighting with women offering water to the moon and then drinking the first sip of water and a meal from their husbands. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on October 20. The Chaturthi Tithi begins on October 20 at 06:46 PM and will end on October 21 at 04:16 PM. The fasting time on Karwa Chauth is from 06:25 AM to 07:54 PM.
Significance of Worshipping the Moon on Karwa ChauthOn Karwa Chauth, the moon is worshipped. It is believed that worshipping the moon represents longevity, peace and prosperity. The moon holds immense significance in Hindu culture as it is believed to be a symbol of calmness and stability. The fast kept by women is broken during Chandra Puja and seek blessings. Legends have it that the moon is linked with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati which is also the symbol of the eternal bond of marriage. The cooling energy of the moon can help soothe the mind and heart, thereby, making it an ideal focus for meditation and prayers. When you worship the moon, you also express your devotion and wish for a harmonious marital life. Also, offering water to the moon is believed to purify the body and soul, thereby, improving the spiritual connection between the couple. All of these make Chandra Puja a key ritual for Karwa Chauth. You may also like
