THIS Republican Is Helping JD Vance To Prepare For VP Debate With Tim Walz

Send Push

Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) enlisted Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) to help him prepare for the upcoming vice presidential debate against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Emmer, the House Majority Whip, was handpicked especially to assist Vance in understanding Walz's “folksy” Midwestern style, according to a person with knowledge of the planning. The sole planned vice presidential debate, which will be sponsored by CBS News and take place in New York on October 1, pits Vance, 40, against Walz, 60. Before the election, this will be the last one-on-one meeting between the vice presidential nominees from the two major parties.Emmer's introduction was a part of a larger plan by Vance's group to acquaint him with Walz's style of discussion. Emmer's political knowledge of Minnesota and Walz's communication style are seen to have been essential to Vance's preparation. Most of the preparation sessions took place online or in Vance's Cincinnati home, where he had the assistance of several advisors. Apart from Emmer, Vance's spouse Usha and senior advisor to the Trump campaign Jason Miller also contributed to the senator's readiness. The group examined Walz's prior debating performances, considered possible tactics, and foresaw possible debate topics.CBS News reports that Walz, on the other hand, has been practicing for the debate by participating in practice sessions. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg helped Walz during his simulated debates, filling in for Vance. To improve their candidates' answers, both sides tried to mimic a debate setting. The insider said that Vance will do better because of his wealth of media expertise gained since he was selected as the Republican vice presidential contender. Vance's staff thinks that by having him participate in many interviews, he will be more credible during the debate. The hosts of "Face the Nation" Margaret Brennan and "Evening News" anchor Norah O'Donnell on CBS will conduct this discussion. It is one of the most anticipated events in the run-up to the election and is set to appear on CBS News at 9 p.m. ET. In contrast, Vance prepares for debates differently from his running mate, former President Donald Trump, who is well-known for not preparing for debates throughout his three presidential campaigns. Trump gave Vance some straightforward advice in a recent interview, advising him to "just be yourself." Trump affirmed his belief in Vance's debating prowess and said he will be "fantastic" in the impending debate.
