Ravichandran Ashwin hit a sensational Test century in Chennai against Bangladesh as India is in the driver's seat after the completion of the first day in the first Test. Ashwin brought up his sixth Test century at his home ground. India were reduced to 144 for 6 as except for Yashasvi Jaiswal, none of the batters managed to contribute with the bat. Rishabh Pant came up with a quickfire 39 runs but it was the 195 runs partnership between Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja which changed the course of the game. Ashwin also equalled MS Dhoni's record of six hundreds and could still eclipse the former Indian captain as he still has a lot of cricket left in him. After the match in a conversation with Ravi Shastri, the 38 year old revealed he followed the Rishabh Pant mantra to hit hard to encounter the Bangladesh bowlers on this Chennai surface. As quoted by Cricbuzz Ashwin said, “Always a special feeling to play in front of the home crowd. This is a ground I completely love to play cricket in. It's given me a lot of wonderful memories. The last time I got a hundred, you were the coach Ravi bhai (Ravi Shastri). “It does feel special. It helps that I have come back at the back of a T20 tournament (TNPL), worked quite a bit on my batting. Of course, I have always been wafting my bat around outside off-stump. Worked on a few things and on a surface like this with a bit of spice, if you're going after the ball, might as well go after it really hard like Rishabh does. “It's an old Chennai surface with a bit of bounce and carry. The red soil pitch allows you to play a few shots if you are willing to just get in line and give it a bit of a tonk when there's width.”
