Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to build another Cubbon-park-like eco space in North Bengaluru. The new park will be established in Yelahanka. According to Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, this new park will give the city a new lung space for its people. While addressing an event, Eshwar Khandre said, ''There is a 153-acre land in North Bengaluru which was under Karnataka Forest Development Corporation (KFDC). The forest department will turn it into a park that is similar to Cubbon Park. Bengaluru will get a new lung space for its people,'' as quoted by Hindustan Times. He also said that another big park is required in Bengaluru as the city is growing rapidly. He further added that the park will be named after Salumarada Timmakka. ''North Bengaluru is growing at a bigger phase and people of this area need a lung space to breathe,'' he said, quoted HT. According to HT report, Timakka is a famous environmentalist from Karnataka who established 385 Banyan trees between Hulikal and Kudur. She single-handedly developed a 45-kilometer green cover on a highway. She was also awarded with Padma Shri in 2019 for her contribution to ecology. In another update, the city may soon see a NaMo Bharat Rapid Rail running to and from Mysuru and Tumakuru, said Union Railways Minister Ashwin Vaishnaw after inspecting the station stretch from Bengaluru Airport to Bengaluru cant. While talking to the reporters, he said that the Railways is thinking of introducing the NaMo Bharat trains for short-distance locations like Bengaluru to Mysuru and Bengaluru to Tumakuru."These trains are for cities which are close to each other, like Bengaluru and Mysuru. The distance between Bengaluru and Mysuru is 135 km -- an ideal distance for rapid rail, so that we can then run at a very good frequency. Cities like Bengaluru and Mysuru, Bengaluru and Tumakuru are ideal for a Namo Bharat Rapid rail," the minister said.
