A vase of spring flowers such as tulips can really brighten your day. They're colourful, and can be the perfect gift to give to a loved one, or just to add some colour into your home.
don't have to be expensive, and usually only cost a few pounds from your local supermarket, but over time, they might start to droop. These , which have long been used to signify the start of spring, often start to droop because of dehydration.
Their stems need to remain moist and they need to be kept away from direct sunlight. You might also have heard of other hacks to make your tulips last for as long as possible, including putting a penny in the vase.
But there's another hack, which some people swear by, which involves one item which won't cost you any money at all.
Online content creator Lucy, who shares videos online of her life as a mum, recently shared how to make tulips last longer thanks to adding one item you keep in your freezer - an ice cube.
Lucy had seen another content creator, Emily McAllister use the trick - and it really works. Telling her followers the results, Lucy said: "It's honestly been amazing, I shot this early in the week and they are still up right and blooming."
Many people were impressed with the hack and wanted to try it out themselves. "Ooo I'm going to try this!! Always find my tulips die after a few days normally," said one person. Another added: "Wow didn't know this!"
Others shared their own hacks, from adding bleach into the water, or some sugar.
How to take care of tulipsWhen you're buying tulips, it's important to choose ones that are still closed or only slightly open. This will ensure they have a longer life. Make sure they are still firm, and avoid any damaged or wilted flowers.
Before putting them in water, you should trim the stems at a 45-degree using some scissors. You should recut them every two to three days to keep them fresh.
It's also important to use a clean vase to make sure it's free of bacteria. Make sure to use cool or lukewarm water, and change it regularly to prevent bacteria buildup.
