Ruud van Nistlerooy makes plea to Ruben Amorim as new Man Utd boss faces immediate call

Ruud van Nistelrooy marked his first match as caretaker boss with a resounding 5-2 victory against Leicester City. Afterwards, the Old Trafford icon expressed his willingness to join incoming manager Ruben Amorim's coaching staff.

Van Nistelrooy took the reins following Erik ten Hag's dismissal on Monday morning and oversaw a dominant performance that set up a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham.

Bruno Fernandes and both scored twice, with adding another, as United ran riot in front of a relieved home crowd.

Sporting manager Amorim is poised to take the helm once a deal is finalised, and Van Nistelrooy has revealed he would be happy to be part of his backroom team if needed.

"I came here as an assistant to help the club. Now, in this role, I'm helping as long as needed," the Dutchman explained after full-time.

"In the future, in any capacity, I'm here to help the club further to build towards the future that's what I'm here for.

"I'm here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity, with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change.

"We scored some great goals, the first one was a beauty from Casemiro. I have to also say that we had some luck as well.

"Two posts and it comes to Casemiro's feet and Bruno's free kick is deflected and it's in, but it's the first one for him after a long time, so I'm so happy for him that he's on the scoresheet twice."

"Five goals, but the chances against West Ham, Fenerbahce and Brentford, we created so many more bigger chances.

"All of a sudden, we had some luck on our side - that made it a great day today."

United defender Diogo Dalot added: " That was the message we wanted to send after a defeat and a tough week.

"That was the minimum we could show, for ourselves and for the fans. A lot of goals, good goals. A good night at Old Trafford."

"We've been creating enough to win games, the difference was a bit more determination in the final third, believing we were going to score, having that confidence we could score."

"We still had two goals we conceded that we should avoid but overall it was a good night for us."

Van Nistelrooy looks set to remain in interim charge until the November international break, with games against Chelsea and PAOK and a Leicester rematch coming up.
