Phillip Schofield's TV comeback 'ruined' as fans fume minutes into new Channel 5 show

Phillip Schofield's return to TV sparked uproar among Channel 5 viewers during Monday night's (September 30) episode of Phillip Schofield Cast Away.

Spending over a year off-screen after admitting to an affair with a young male colleague on ITV's This Morning, the broadcaster aimed to present a new facet of himself. In Cast Away on Channel 5, he ventured to a desolate island to demonstrate his survival prowess.

Yet, shortly after the show commenced, audiences expressed irritation that Schofield also served as the narrator. Flocking to social media, disgruntled fans aired their grievances; one irked viewer commented: "Doing his own narration is irritating."

Another remarked on the disconnect, stating: "Totally distracted by Schofield's voice being a lot deeper on the voiceover than the high-pitched squeak we all know and love."

Further criticism was levelled at Schofield's unexpected use of expletives, with viewers taken aback by his language starkly contrasting his polished daytime TV image.

A particular viewer noted: "Watching Phillip Schofield on channel 5 it feels so weird hearing him swear on TV because I'm used to him being on daytime television lol and he looks a bit different," reports the Mirror.

Schofield's TV resurgence has been marred by debate from the onset of the show's announcement, with a section of the audience believing he should not have been allowed back on air. As the show progressed, it continued to polarise opinions.

Flocking to platform X on social media, one user exclaimed: "The real problem in this country is people thinking they have an absolute right to be judge and juror by headlines."

"We have a criminal justice system to hold offenders to account. I certainly don't know better than the police or CPS so why do some think they do?"

Meanwhile, another viewer quipped: "Well that's an hour of my life I won't get back. Prob won't watch the next episode of the pity party, was fun to wind up the Schofield Sympathisers for an hour though."

In the midst of the programme, preceding his departure, Phillip's daughter disclosed her views regarding her father's venture to an isolated island, stating: "You can't hide anything and I really hope people see him how we see him because he just amazing."
