GB News halted for unusual 'breaking news' as viewers rage 'scraping the barrel'

viewers were left up in arms after host Tom Harwood interrupted the afternoon show to issue some unusual breaking news. During Friday's visit to the London studios (April 25), the 32-year-old broadcaster returned to the helm alongside his co-host Emily Carver where they discussed the biggest stories hitting the headlines.

But the show took an unusual turn when the broadcaster halted the programme to reveal a new update about the beloved children's cartoon Peppa Pig. The Channel 5 children's show broke the internet earlier this year after they revealed that Mummy Pig was pregnant, expanding the family brood from four characters to five. Halfway through the news programme, Tom revealed that the pregnant cartoon pig is now expecting a baby girl.

As they shared the exciting news, the pair welcomed doting mum Nicole and her two devoted daughters Alyssia and Sophia onto the show to talk about the new discovery after placing their bets on what the baby's gender would be for weeks.

Nicole explained: "This is Sophia who thought it was a girl and this is Alyssia who was adament that Mummy Pig was having a boy, so Alyssia is absolutely gutted that it's a girl. She wanted to Peppa to have a brother."

The loving mum went on to share her thoughts of the children's programme, admitting: "It's a tricky one because there's parts of Peppa that I like and there's other parts of Peppa that I'm not a huge fan of.

"I'd like to think that Daddy Pig could step up this time and be more equitable in the parenting journey. It will be interesting to see what will happen with the maternity leave for Mummy Pig, that will be an interesting part of the journey into parenthood to see how Peppa's dad is going to step up here.

"But in regards to whether they enjoy it I think this is actually an opportunity for it to become much more of an educational piece for children and for families."

It didn't take long before fans flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their thoughts on the unexpected segment on the news programme , with one user posting: "'Peppa Pig'... let me guess... a new woke character in the indoctrination of children... scraping the bottom of the barrel now GBN!"

Another joked: "The Peppa Pig announcement has me breaking out in a rash(er) [cry-laughing emoji]" as a third fumed: "We are being dumbed down, lol, who would have thought it!"

A fourth chimed in with: "More gender stuff on GB News. Let it go and stop giving it airtime. Scrapong the barrel springs to mind. I have tuned into cbeebies by mistake."
