's coach had the perfect reply after facing criticism over the world No. 5's latest defeat.

The Russian star suffered another loss at the hands of Jannik Sinner in their Shanghai Masters quarter-final contest on Thursday.

But it was his coach, Gilles Cervara, who felt the wrath of an online troll.

Medvedev's record against Sinner is an unusual one. The 28-year-old won their first six meetings. Since then, the world No. 1 has had his number.

Sinner won the next five before Medvedev ended his streak by beating him at Wimbledon this summer. But the Italian quickly recovered from that loss, winning their last two encounters at the US Open and Shanghai Masters.

Their match in China was something of a thrashing as Sinner easily won 6-1 6-4. And one of Medvedev's fans wasn't happy, as they directed their frustration at his coach.

"Please retire from tennis coaching. Medvedev worst serve will never change. And his worst net game will never change," they wrote in the comments of Cervara's latest Instagram post.

"I guess you must [live] an amazing beautiful and passionated life with amazing passionated people. I would love to have same life and I am really working hard for it..."

His comment quickly grabbed attention as fans praised Medvedev's coach for his hilarious reply. Cervara continued to entertain his followers with a funny reaction to Rafael Nadal's retirement announcement.

The Spaniard confirmed that he would be , sharing the news in an emotional video. Cervara reposted it and paid tribute to the 22-time Major champion, though he couldn't help but add a subtle dig.

"Rafa big big congrats for your huge career. The way you fought during adversity was inspiring for so many people in life," he said. "By the way thanks for the 2 Grand Slams you took [from] Daniil and the team!!!"

Medvedev lost two Grand Slam finals to Nadal - the 2019 US Open and the 2022 Australian Open. The latter was a heroic comeback which saw the Spaniard win in five sets after going 0-5 down.
