The latest episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, the celebrity version of , had viewers taking to social media to discuss a particularly gruesome-looking pie. In the recent show, celebrities were tasked with three challenges: creating delicious crumpets for the signature round, mastering their piping skills for the technical challenge, and crafting a pie showstopper in tribute to their celebrity hero.
This week's line-up featured actress and writer Meera Syal, comedian and actor Tommy Tiernan, known for his role in Derry Girls, comedian Adam Buxton, and musician and actress Rebecca Lucy Taylor, who performs under the name Self Esteem. For the showstopper round, the stars revealed their celebrity heroes, with Tommy opting for folk music icon Bob Dylan, whom he depicted in pecan pie form.
Adam presented a cherry pie inspired by Ridley Scott, Meera crafted a vibrant pie in the likeness of artist Frida Kahlo, and Rebecca offered a sweet creation in honour of George Michael. However, it was Adam's pie that garnered the most attention on X, formerly , due to its deliberately horrifying presentation.
The comedian chose to pay tribute to Alien director Ridley Scott by replicating the infamous scene from the thriller where an alien bursts out of a person's stomach, designing a pie with a banana carved to resemble an alien protruding from the centre.
The judges on last night's episode of The Great British Bake Off couldn't contain their laughter as an 'alien' cake failed to shape up upon its reveal, although they commended contestant Adam for a valiant 'effort' and the pie's flavour profile, reports .
On social media platform X, comments flooded in with one viewer expressing: "Adam's alien creation is probably the most repulsive and disgusting creation I've seen on #GBBO for some time." (sic)
Agreeing with the sentiment, another said: "That image is nightmare fuel." While a third added: "Paul and Caroline tasting alien pie [sick emoji] they sure do earn their wages on that show!" (sic)
Meanwhile during this evening's show, Meera impressed in the signature challenge, receiving the coveted 'Hollywood Handshake' from judge Paul Hollywood for her exceptional crumpets.
Thrilled with Paul's appreciation, she joyously declared: "I can die happy now. It really matters if someone enjoys your food."
As for the technical challenge, the celebrity bakers grappled with creating a Lambeth Cake, which resulted in much hilarity though it was a difficult task for them all.
Ultimately, Rebecca's skills were unmatched, especially since her competitors inadvertently left paper within their cakes.
Bake Off enthusiasts were charmed by the evening's challenges, with one enthusiast tweeting: "Who doesn't love a crumpet!"
Others showed support for the contestants, as one person cheered: "Good luck to all taking part for such an important cause!"
When all was said and done, it was Meera who rose to the top, becoming star baker thanks to her standout savoury delights.
The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer returns next Sunday at 7.40pm on Channel 4.
