's chillingly dystopian science fiction thriller is keeping viewers captivated with the arrival of series seven. However, this time it's not just the show's characters who are being targeted, as a new trick emerges which is designed to make them question reality.
Verity, played by Rosy McEwen, has been using a high-tech pendant which causes an ever-changing reality in front of her terrified victim's eyes. Maria, who is channelled by Siena Kelly, finds that her own mind has become a living nightmare due to the trickery, causing her to question everything she's ever perceived as real. She recalls that her boyfriend once worked at a fried chicken shop called Barnie's, which had a distinctive hat as part of its uniform.
However, her colleagues insist everything she knew to be true is wrong and that the shop is actually called Bernie's.
Checking it out online confirms that they're right - and her heart starts to pound as she discovers that the spelling even seems to have changed on her boyfriend's hat.
Viewers soon realised that the mind games and manipulation making Maria unsure of her sanity have been filtered down to them too.
They took to Twitter to share screenshots from specific time-stamps amongst themselves, and realised that the spelling of the chicken shop varies for them too: some viewers see "Bernie's" on screen, while others see "Barnie's".
One viewer prompted the checks by revealing: "So my friend and I were watching the new Black Mirror episode 'Bête Noire' and we noticed that there was a stark difference between our episodes... even the viewers are getting gaslit at 16:40!"
"Black Mirror filming two versions of the Bernie's/Barnie's scene and distributing them randomly is next level diabolical!" exclaimed another.
Even people living in the same household as each other discovered they were being shown different spellings.
Despite feeling that the producers were trying to drive them "insane" with the ambiguity, many praised the "chaotic genius" of the trickery, with one declaring: "This is what Black Mirror is all about."
