SpiceJet Expands Domestic Network with New UDAN Flights to Shivamogga

SpiceJet has announced the launch of new UDAN flights connecting Shivamogga in Karnataka with Chennai and Hyderabad, starting from October 10, 2024. This expansion aims to strengthen the airline’s domestic network.

These new routes mark the airline’s first new destination after raising Rs 3,000 crore through a qualified institutional placement (QIP), which has helped fuel its growth plans, according to stock exchange filings. The new flights will operate daily, except on Tuesdays, providing a convenient travel option between Shivamogga and these major metro cities.

In addition to this, SpiceJet is also launching double daily flights between Chennai and Kochi, starting from October 10, 2024, further enhancing regional connectivity.

“We are excited to add Shivamogga to our network and connect it with Chennai and Hyderabad, two major economic hubs. This expansion under the UDAN scheme shows our commitment to providing affordable, seamless travel options to passengers across India,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer of SpiceJet.

This move comes as the airline prepares for the festive season by adding seven aircraft to its fleet, six of which will be acquired on short-term wet lease agreements. SpiceJet also plans to bring back three previously grounded planes into service.

The airline aims to expand its fleet to 100 aircraft by the end of 2026, said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet.
