A major Verizon Fios outage affected millions of users across the US East Coast, creating widespread internet disruptions from Boston to Washington, D.C. According to reports from Down Detector, complaints began flooding in early Tuesday, with the highest spike occurring between midnight and 2 a.m. EST as users across multiple states experienced service interruptions.
Frustrated Users Express Concerns on Social Media
Social media platforms, especially X (formerly Twitter), quickly became a hub for frustrated users seeking answers. One user posted, “Verizon has all of us night owls and insomniacs in a tizzy because there’s an apparent outage nationwide. It’s definitely here in DC, MD, and I believe Virginia.” Another user described the situation as "unusual" and "annoying," highlighting the extensive reach and prolonged duration of the outage.
Types of Disruptions Reported
Data from Down Detector showed thousands of complaints, with about 90% related to internet connectivity issues. Additionally, 9% were classified as "total blackout," and 1% involved TV streaming disruptions. The affected areas stretched nearly 300 miles, from Richmond, Virginia, up to Pennsylvania, impacting major cities like New York and Philadelphia.
Verizon Acknowledges the Issue
In response to a customer’s post, Verizon’s support team confirmed they were aware of the issue. A support representative replied, "There is either an outage or network maintenance impacting your area. We don’t have full details just yet. Our apologies for any inconvenience this is causing. We’re trying to get all the information from our network team so we can provide you all an update."
