India's Defense Milestone: Successful Test of Long-Range Cruise Missile in Odisha

Send Push

India marked a major step in its defense advancements with the successful maiden flight test of its Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) on Tuesday. Conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) off the Chandipur coast in Odisha, the test highlights a breakthrough in the nation's missile technology.

The missile, launched from a mobile articulated platform, performed seamlessly, meeting all primary mission goals, including high accuracy and reliability. DRDO officials confirmed that the missile’s subsystems worked as anticipated throughout the test.

To monitor the missile's performance, a variety of sensors, including radar and electro-optical tracking systems, were stationed at multiple points along the ITR. These systems tracked the missile's flight path, verifying its trajectory and maneuvering capabilities as it flew at different altitudes and speeds.

Designed with advanced avionics and sophisticated navigation software, the LRLACM can follow a pre-determined path using waypoint navigation, allowing it to perform complex maneuvers. This versatility significantly enhances India’s defense arsenal.

The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) in Bengaluru led the missile’s development, supported by collaborations across various DRDO laboratories and defense partners. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Hyderabad and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in Bengaluru contributed as key Development-Cum-Production Partners, assisting with the missile’s development and integration.

High-ranking DRDO scientists and military officials observed the test flight’s success, reinforcing confidence in the missile’s strategic capabilities. As a part of India's defense modernization efforts, the LRLACM is capable of being launched from both ground-based mobile platforms and naval ships equipped with a universal vertical launch system. Approved under the Defence Acquisition Council's "Mission Mode Project," this missile enhances India's capacity for precision, long-range strikes, strengthening national security.
