However, before the start of this tournament, former player Mohammad Azharuddin has given a big statement regarding the India and Pakistan match. Mohammad Azharuddin believes that India should not play a match against Pakistan in any tournament.
Azharuddin gave a statement on India-Pakistan matchIn fact, for a long time, the matches between Team India and Pakistan are being played only in ICC events. After the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, the Indian government had announced that they will no longer play any matches against Pakistan. There has been no bilateral series between these two teams for a long time, but both are seen playing matches against each other in ICC events like World Cup and Champions Trophy. These two teams will also face each other in Asia Cup 2025 and Azharuddin has said a big thing about the match.
Mohammad Azharuddin said, 'I always say that if something is happening then let it happen and if it is not happening then distance should be maintained from it. If you are not playing bilateral series then you should not play in international events either. I think so. The board and the government should understand this. The league of veteran players is not official. It has not been sanctioned by ICC or BCCI. But Asia Cup is a tournament which is organized by ACC.'

A total of 8 teams have been divided into two groups in this tournament. Group A consists of India, Pakistan, Oman and UAE while Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. The final match of the tournament will be held on 28 September. Talking about India, they won the trophy of the 2023 season. The team won the final against Sri Lanka last season. They are the defending champions of this tournament.
