Dubai: A video of Abu Dhabi airport is going viral on social media, in which King Mswati III of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) of Africa is seen. In the video, the king is seen getting off a private jet with his 15 wives, 30 children and about 100 servants. In the video, King Mswati III can be seen in a traditional leopard print attire, while his wives are seen shining in colourful African attire. A team of servants was seen handling the luggage of the king and queens. Due to this huge royal convoy, three terminals of the airport were temporarily closed and security arrangements had to be tightened.
King Mswati III has been King of Eswatini since 1986 and is considered one of the world's wealthiest rulers. He has 15 wives and over 35 children, while his father had 125 wives and over 210 children. The king chooses a new bride each year during the "Reed Dance" ceremony, but his opulence also highlights issues of poverty and social inequality in the country.
Nearly 60% of Eswatini's population lives below the poverty line. After the video went viral, social media was flooded with memes. People joked, "The king's convoy looks like an entire village!" Many also commented on the stark contrast between royal life and the conditions of ordinary people. According to reports, King Mswati III was visiting the UAE to negotiate economic agreements and investments, but social media made the royal visit viral, drawing global attention.
