Anu Kapoor recently had a long conversation with ANI. During his interview, he also shared the story of the night when Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi got married. On one hand, Javed Akhtar was drunk on his wedding night and Anu Kapoor took the responsibility of their marriage on his shoulders. If Anu Kapoor is to be believed, he got them married and also made all the arrangements.
Javed Akhtar was drunk on the wedding nightAnnu Kapoor says, “I got Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi married on the night of 9 December 1984. That too is a story in itself. He was sitting in a trance (he had drunk alcohol) and she was sitting inside reading a book, so I reached there on the night of 9 December. I said she is my wife now… I considered her as my sister… so I said whatever it is, decide now. He was very trance-like. So he started saying what should I decide, he is not ready to do anything.”
Anu Kapoor had brought Maulana in the middle of the nightCompleting his statement, Anu Kapoor further said, "I went to him and asked, Sir, are you all ready? He said, yes, it's okay. I said, Bibi, are you ready? He said, yes, it's okay. I said, then I am leaving." After this, Anu Kapoor went with his driver and brought the Maulvi at midnight. That night, Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor were called. Some other people were also called and the wedding was over by morning.
