Brits are set to swelter in 35C heat this week with the country hotter than Bali as another heatwave sweeps in.
Temperatures could beat the hottest day of the year last month, when 35.8C which was recorded in Faversham, Kent. Warmth is building in the coming days, with much of central and southern England likely to reach heatwave criteria by midweek. Forecasters say we can expect seven days of sunshine as we roast in the fourth heatwave so far and the Met Office predicts the mercury will reach 31C today before climbing to the mid-30s on Tuesday.
It is expected to again reach 31C on Wednesday as maps from WXCharts show the elevated temperatures lasting until at least Saturday where they remain above 30C in the south. It comes after a BT warning for anyone who still has a UK landline in their home.

A combination of high pressure and a southerly airflow is the reason for the heat with temperatures higher than the 29C forecast on holiday island Bali in Indonesia.
The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “It’s good news for holidaymakers in the UK, with mainly sunny conditions and temperatures soaring above 30C, as warmth reaches the North as well. Temperatures could pip the 35.8C hottest day of the year by Tuesday. It will be a close-run thing.”
Netweather forecaster Nick Finnis added: "A heatwave is on the way, with the UK tapping into heat in the low 40Cs in France.” Meanwhile, yellow heat health alerts have been issued from midday on Monday until Wednesday evening covering London, Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands, east of England, the South East and South West.
There could be greater impact across health and social care services including the potential for a rise in deaths, The UK Health Security Agency warned.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree said: “Warmth is the focus in the forecast in the first half of this week, with temperatures likely to peak on Tuesday around the mid-30s, but remaining above average in the second half of the week, particularly further to the southeast.
“The exception to the widely warm conditions will be northwest Scotland on Monday, where showers will be more frequent. Warmth will develop there from Tuesday with temperatures peaking in the mid to high 20s.”

But as well as the warm temperatures, forecasters also said there is a risk of scattered thunderstorms pushing in to the north tonight and again on Thursday from the Atlantic.
Tom Morgan, meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “[There is] definitely a north-south split in the weather [on Monday]. Quite cloudy across Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England, the rain tending to come and go, but most persistent in western Scotland.
“Otherwise, England and Wales seeing mostly sunny skies, although there will be more in the way of high level cloud out there compared to on Sunday, so the sunshine [will be] hazy at times.”
Elsewhere, bookies reckon this month could go down as the hottest August ever and make it just 5/2 that it happens. Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Apati said: “A scorching couple of weeks could be on the cards, and with Brits now bracing for a heatwave, we’ve slashed odds on this going down as a record-breaking hot August.”
