The Premier League has explained why were controversially denied a penalty in the opening minutes of their clash against . After Andreas Pereira robbed Ibrahima Konate in his own box, he squared the ball to Rodrigo Muniz after went to ground and appeared to bring down the Fulham midfielder.
Muniz then collided with Virgil van Dijk, but Fulham's appeals for a penalty were waved away by the officials. And the Match Centre has explained why the penalty was not given in a post on social media.
"The referee’s call of no penalty to Fulham following a challenge by Kelleher on Pereira was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed a coming together and not a reckless action," they said. "The VAR also checked and cleared the incident between van Dijk and Muniz."
Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison told Radio 5 Live: "I'm all for playing out from the back but I cannot see what Ibrahima Konate is trying to do there. Don't try flicks and tricks, that is not your job.
"Andreas Pereira does well, knocks it to Rodrigo Muniz and the ball runs away from him and he collides with Virgil van Dijk. That won't be a penalty but Liverpool are still very fortunate."

However, fans were not happy with the decision and felt Fulham deserved a penalty. "Absolute nonsense. A mistimed challenge by Kellegher on Pereira’s legs. Also known as a foul," wrote one.
"A coming together is hilarious he’s dived at his feet and tripped him up," added another. A third fumed: "Ridiculous. Any defender clearing out an attacker like that and it would be a pen".
Another wrote: "How is that not a penalty for Fulham! The keeper cleans out Pereira and not even checked by VAR? If an outfield player makes a late challenge on a player and misses the ball it’s a free kick and poss card!! Liverpool getting a big call again, their goal in the week was offside!"
A fifth fumed: "And that right there sums up everything wrong with the premier league, and why so many fans are frustrated. Nothing challenge yesterday, get a penalty. Kelleher & Van Dijk just take out 2 Fulham players, goal kick to Liverpool. Couldn’t even make it up at this point.."
Liverpool then went on to take the lead thanks to a stunning long-range strike from Alexis Mac Allister, but Fulham quickly hit back as Ryan Sessegnon scored an equaliser and Alex Iwobi then put Marco Silva's side in front with a deflected strike.
And Liverpool legend was critical of Andy Robertson's role in the goal after he played a poor pass that was intercepted by Iwobi. "What a mess," he exclaimed while on commentary for .
"It is such a poor pass from a player of Robertson's quality. He then doesn't make the header and it hits him on the way in." Muniz then remarkably made it 3-1 to Fulham as Liverpool conceded three goals in just 14 minutes.
