Police have charged a mum with neglectafter her 22-month-old baby was found in a "significant state of decomposition." When confronted with the discovery, Sophie Igou, 28, allegedly asked: "Did I do this?"
Igou, from Indiana, US, faces two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death and three additional counts of neglect, according tocourtrecords. Her bail has been set at $2 million (£1.5 million). The mum called 911 at around 10.45pm on September 17, reporting that she had found her son Jasper dead and cold to the touch. Officers met her outside her trailer minutes later, where she was holding the toddler wrapped in a sheet. Police said Jasper appeared to have been deceased "for a significant period of time" and was "extremely malnourished," with bones visible beneath his skin and a "near-complete absence of subcutaneous fat."

Investigators reported finding "decomposing material" in a cot, and described the home as hoarded - littered with rubbish, insect-infested, and "entirely unsafe/unhealthy as a domicile for human beings, let alone small children."
They said Igou "appeared to act surprised" when she learned Jasper had been dead for some time before she called the police.
"When confronted with the condition of Jasper's body, Sophie stated, 'Did I do this?'" one report said.
One officer who arrived at the scene wrote that he heard Igou ask, "Am I going to jail now?"
During an interview at Shelbyville Police Headquarters, she told officers that the children had lived with her full-time since her ex-husband moved out in November 2024.
She added that Jasper had recently struggled to keep food down, but admitted she had not taken him to a doctor because she was "trying to get her bearings as a single mom," local media reports.
Igou's two other children, aged four and eight, were taken into the custody of the Indiana Department of Child Services.
Court records show Jasper had not received medical care since January 2024. A post-mortem carried out on September 19 found that the tot weighed just 14lb - only four pounds more than he did at his last doctor's appointment.
According to court records reviewed by People magazine, Igou also faces a further neglect charge after her eldest child was allegedly not enrolled in school.
