Man Utd pick up fresh injury blow as statement released following Matheus Cunha update

Send Push

Manchester United have suffered a fresh injury blow after Diogo Dalot was sent home from international duty by Portugal. Dalot, 26, becomes the Red Devils' third injury woe in the space of the week after Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount were both forced off during Saturday's dramatic 3-2 win at home to Burnley.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Portuguese Football Federation said: "Full-back Nuno Tavares was called up to the National Senior squad this Thursday to replace Diogo Dalot. The international, who plays for Manchester United, complained of muscle discomfort and was released by the Health and Performance Unit."

The news comes after Cunha updated fans by saying that he'll be 'back soon'. The forward was forced to pull out of Brazil's squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

"What an incredible environment, it's great to be here," Cunha posted on Instagram. "Ill be back soon, always with joy and gratitude. Thanks for all the messages."

Amorim expressed his concerns about both Cunha and Mount - the latter of whom came off at half-time - following the victory over Burnley, United's first win of the season. "It was hard to lose a player like Cunha and Mason Mount - Mount played like 30 minutes with an injury," Amorim revealed.

"I don't know [if the pair suffered long-term injuries], I don't know but I'm concerned about that. They are so important for us, so we'll see."

Amorim will hope to have both players available as soon as possible, with United due to play local rivals Manchester City following the international break. The Red Devils will then face Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland before the next international fixtures in October.

Cunha, who United paid Wolves £62.5million to sign in June, has impressed Amorim in his short time at the club, where it's been a difficult start to the campaign, with two defeats and one draw before the Burnley match. "He's a loud guy that's really important in this moment," the Red Devils boss said.

"When he's upset, you can feel it in the environment and that's good. When you play some games and he loses, he's a different guy, and that's good. He has some characteristics that we miss last season, so I'm really happy with him and the other guys."
