A man has died after being rescued from the sea with signs of drowning on a Gran Canaria beach.
On Friday, July 18 a 70-year-old man and a 65-year-old man went for a swim in the bathing area in San Cristóbal, municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. At around 12.40am tragedy struck when the men got into difficulty in the water.
1 1 2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received several calls requesting medical assistance for several people who had been rescued from the sea. Along with local and national police Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) sent one Rapid Intervention Vehicle (VIR), two medicalized ambulances, one sanitized ambulance, and two basic life support ambulances to the scene.

The 70-year-old was pulled from the water and despite best efforts was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. The 65-year-old man, who at the initial time of assistance showed signs of moderate incomplete drowning, was transported to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
Police have not issued an update on the 65-year-old's condition and the 112 incident log suggestsno possible third-party involvement. The incidents highlight the dangers of drowning and the importance of swift medical intervention.
It comes just days after a British man who tragically drowned in Portugal has revealed he lost his life while heroically attempting to save his best friend. It is believed that the friends died in a hotel pool on July 15. A heartfelt memorial with candles, flowers, and tealights forming the names of the men has been created near the flats on Ipswich Waterfront.
