On hearing the name mummy, you start thinking of Egypt. Many centuries ago, dead bodies were preserved, but you will be surprised to know that the practice of keeping mummies has been in Egypt and many countries around the world. The Guanajuato Museum in Mexico has the largest collection of natural mummies. These people died due to the cholera epidemic around 1800 AD. The mummy was kept for display in this museum for the first time in the year 1865. The world's smallest mummy is also present in this museum.

In the Palermo area of Sicily Island in Italy, disembodied mummies are kept inside the basement of a church called 'Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini' which looks like skeletons.

A huge exhibition of mummies was organized at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix, USA. In this, mummies of ancient European, South American, and Egyptian people were kept for display.

The Tollund Man of Denmark is a famous mummy whose body was found in the year 1950. It is believed that this person died by hanging or was a human sacrifice. This mummy has been kept for display in the Silkeborg Museum.

You will find many centuries-old mummies in the Spiti Valley of the Himachal Pradesh state of India. India's only naturally preserved mummy is present in the village here. This mummy is of the Buddhist saint Sangha Tenzin, which is believed to be about 500 to 600 years old according to carbon dating. It is said about this mummy that its hair and nails are still growing.
