Kolkata: During a joint operation by Bihar and West Bengal Police in the early hours of Saturday at a housing complex in New Town near Kolkata, five people were arrested in connection with the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra at a private hospital in Patna on July 17.
According to the police officials, after the incident the five people in order to escape left Patna for Kolkata.
“Four of the five arrested people have direct connection with the murder. Role of the fifth person is being ascertained. We got their clue while tracking their mobile tower signals. The Bihar Police will seek transit remand after presenting them before a local court in Kolkata,” said the police official.
Notably, gangster Chandan Mishra was undergoing treatment in a private hospital when this incident happened. Mishra had 24 cases against him including 12 murder cases.
Incidentally, in the same housing complex in New Town a shoot out took place in June 2021 and two gangsters from Punjab who were hiding there were killed in police firing.
Opposition however slammed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government for making West Bengal allegedly ‘safe zone’ for the criminals.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and MoS Sukanta Majumdar said, “There is a border of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand beside Bihar but the criminals chose West Bengal as they know it is a safe place for the criminals. Mamata Banerjee shares good terms with Lalu Prasad Yadav so they thought nothing will happen to them here.”
West Bengal News: TMC Minister Shashi Panja Slams PM Modi Over Odisha Girl Burnt Alive Case, Says Women Safer In Bengal; VIDEOTMC minister Shashi Panja said, “Instead of slamming TMC the opposition should take note of the facts that the state police are capable of arresting the criminals and also that the crime took place in BJP ruled Bihar.”
