Zubeen Garg passed away at 52

Zubeen was in Singapore to perform at the North East Festival, a cultural event that was set to begin on September 20. He was injured while scuba diving in Singapore and was quickly taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away in the ICU while receiving treatment.


Zubeen was in Singapore to take part in the North East Festival, which was set to begin on Friday. According to the organisers, Zubeen had breathing issues during the dive and was given CPR on the spot. He was then rushed to Singapore General Hospital, but doctors couldn’t save him. He was declared dead around 2:30 pm IST.


Throughout his career, Zubeen Garg was known for his ability to sing in multiple languages, including Assamese, Hindi, and Bengali, earning him a unique place in both regional and Bollywood music scenes. His songs not only entertained but also brought the rich culture of Assam to a wider audience. Over the years, he became one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons, with a fan base that extended far beyond his home state.

Zubeen took wedding vows with Garima Saikia on February 4, 2002. She is a fashion designer from Golaghat, Assam. The duo's old photo from Mumbai days before marriage is going viral on the internet. She shared the picture on Instagram.

Zubeen’s death has created a major void in the Indian music industry. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep sorrow upon hearing about Zubeen Garg’s death, having been informed by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita. He described the news as heartbreaking and a great loss for both Assam and the entire country. Sarma also shared on social media that Assam has lost one of its most beloved sons, expressing his shock and sadness over Zubeen’s untimely passing, which he felt was far too soon.


He was not only a talented singer but also a cultural ambassador who brought Assamese music to national and international platforms. His legacy will live on through his memorable songs and the inspiration he provided to aspiring artists.
